wedding dress trends

One of the most exciting aspects of planning a wedding is choosing a wedding dress. In fact, brides spend hours picking out the right look for the entire wedding party, including the bridesmaids and the groom. Deciding on the perfect look to match the season, taste and the latest style is something that requires focus on even the most intricate of details.

When the top wedding dress designers sent models down their runways to showcase the Spring 2014 wedding scene, designs included lace embroidery and dramatic necklines on every catwalk turn. The next wedding season will see a lot of lace in the details, from shoes to veils and even accents on belts. Illusion necklines with delicate see-through material on the back and shoulders give the appearance of a strapless gown, but the dramatic touch will come from lace accents.

Fashion forward brides-to-be have many styles to choose from depending on your vision and the inspiration behind the wedding. When it’s time to search for the perfect dress, knowing the theme of your wedding will give you a good place to start. Most wedding themes are categorized as formal, casual, traditional or destination.Take a look at what trends to consider in each category to create the perfect look for your wedding.

Wedding Dress Trends for the Traditional Affair

If your vision of the day you say “I do” is inspired by your mother’s own wedding album, you’ll be naturally drawn to a more traditional wedding.  When trying on dresses, look for longer trains and veils. A very traditional style dress is a strapless A-line gown with embroidery detail, often in silk or taffeta material. Traditional styles for the wedding party include 3 piece suits for the groomsmen and coordinating dresses for the bridesmaids. A great way to tie everyone’s attire together is to color coordinate the groomsmen’s ties or handkerchiefs with the color of the bridesmaids’ dresses and flowers.

Wedding Dress Trends for the Casual Approach

If you are planning a small, intimate affair or prefer a more laid back feel to your nuptials, a casually dressed wedding party may better suit your taste. Designers are sending short dresses down the runway, many times even paired with a cardigan sweater. Casual attire may be more suitable for your groom if the formal 3 piece suit doesn’t fit his style. Many brides are picking tailored vests for their grooms, foregoing the traditional suit jacket. Another casual option for the wedding party is to let the bridesmaids choose their dresses. Giving them simple guidelines on color and material will help give a unique but slightly uniform appearance.

Wedding Dress Trends for the More Formal Event

If you have the time and budget to plan a formal affair, there are endless possibilities. Brides with a flair for elegance will want dresses with sparkling embellishments on their gowns, full princess silhouettes and dramatic veils or hair pieces. Your formal wedding party will look regal in matching long dresses, usually with flowing chiffon skirts. Groomsmen will have just the right impact with full tuxedos, bow ties and even tails on their jackets.

What to Look for in Destination Themes

beach wedding

If you see a beach wedding in your future, there are many styles of wedding dress that will help make your dream day a reality. Most beach weddings call for light weight material and fabrics, so search for a strapless gown in an airy chiffon material. For your wedding party, warm colors like yellow, orange or aquamarine would be the perfect accent for your background beach scenes. As your entire wedding party will spend considerable time in warm temperatures, look for lightweight linen trousers and shirts for your groom and groomsmen.

Once you’ve determined the right theme for your big day, you’ll be better prepared to pick just the right dress and attire for the rest of your wedding party, turning this special event into the wedding of your dreams.
